Travel: The only thing you can buy that makes you richer

My first post & video!  It took me a while to figure out how to use all of the technology but I'm thrilled with the results of my first post!  Also please remember that it is my first video so be gentle with your judgements on my speaking and editing skills :)

List of shows I'm planning on seeing!

Research Proposal

The world of theatre performance uses many techniques to reflect upon the human experience.  It uses text, voice, movement, and sometimes music to tell a story and inspire the audience to reflect upon the society and culture that they live in.

It is my personal belief that a theatre production always has two objectives:  To transport the audience into the world of the play and have them engage their suspension of disbelief; and to inspire the audience to think critically about an issue within the play that is relevant to their society.  The way that a production approaches these two objectives and the ratio of emphasis that they give to each helps determine the quality and effectiveness of any kind of production.

I want to use London as my looking glass into a different theatre society.  I will attend several London theatre productions of different varieties (musicals vs. straight plays, large vs. small theatres, contemporary vs. classical literature) to see to what extent the London theatre world fulfills these two objectives.  Do they place more value on one than on the other?  Are these objectives, which I have come to view as universal, not used and the London theatre society has a different set of objectives all together?  These are the questions that I will be exploring on my trip to London.
